Shanghai's metro now runs later on weekends and holidays
Seeing as getting a taxi in this city post 9pm is getting nigh-on impossible these days, you'll be glad to hear that some Shanghai metro lines will now be running a little later on weekends and holidays.
From Friday 2 December, Lines 1, 2 and 8 (three heavyweights of the metro line scene, it can be agreed) will extend their operating hours by 30 minutes on Fridays, Saturdays and the day prior to national holidays. For example, on said days the last train on Line 2 will now leave Hongqiao Railway Station at 11.30pm. Still not as late as we'd like, but every little bit helps.
The change came about due to growing demand for metro services, it was announced yesterday. Netizens have called for the extended hours to be rolled out on other lines too.
Meanwhile, Line 6 is increasing the number of trains that run during peak times, which ought to reduce waiting times by up to a minute and a half. Music to the ears of anyone who's seen Century Avenue station at rush hour.
